’30 Rock’ Cancelled; Community, Parks and Rec Return Doubtful

What is NBC thinking? Last week, the network decided to cancel one of its most popular shows in a move that will have television fanatics scratching their heads and rumors point to two other shows being cancelled as well. Fans of 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, and Community are upset and curious as to why their beloved shows will only come back for one more, shortened season. The final season of 30 Rock will contain just 13 episodes, nine fewer than other seasons. 30 Rock has been on the air for six seasons, Parks and Recreation for four and Community for three. NBC didn’t even cancel The Office, which has struggled to earn ratings after Steve Carell left the cast; the show is currently in its eighth season.

What could be causing a network like NBC to cancel its most beloved shows? Some outlets report that conflicts between cast members could be the reason that the network can’t get actors to return. Another problem could be that since the shows have become so popular, stars are itching to pursue bigger roles than television sitcoms.

The network’s fall list of shows includes six comedies: 1600 Penn, The New Normal, Go on, Save Me, and Animal Practice. For more news on whether the shows are “gently” cancelled or suddenly renewed, rely on the free TelevisionFanatic toolbar.

Grey’s Anatomy Original Cast Signs on Through Season 10

Can the television fanatics out there believe that Grey’s Anatomy has been around for eight seasons already? Like our parents’ generation’s ER and General Hospital, the medical drama doesn’t appear to be going away any time soon. This week, the show’s six remaining original stars (Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers, James Pickens, Jr., and Chandra Wilson) all signed two-year contracts with ABC. The original cast members were the only ones with expiring contracts at the end of this season, so we’ll see the rest of the cast rejoin the originals through the end of next season (if not beyond).

Grey’s Anatomy creator and showrunner Shonda Rhimes said that writing the season eight finale, which will air a week from tonight, was extremely difficult without knowing which of the original cast would return.

“It was the most complex puzzle I’ve had to put together, ever,” she said in a earlier interview. “Finally I just decided to focus on what was going to be best creatively [and] make it work regardless of what is happening [off screen].”

Britney Spears Joins “The X Factor” as a Judge

A deal has been reached as to who will fill one of the empty judges spots on “The X Factor.” Britney Spears will fill one of the spots vacated when producer Simon Cowell fired last season’s judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger after ratings and performance did not meet Cowell’s expectations. Cowell has said that he would like to find a male celebrity to fill the other judging gig.

News outlets are reporting that Spears will make $15 million by appearing on “The X Factor”; $13 million for judging the singers and performers who appear on the show and another $2 million for performing regularly on the show. In March, it was reported that Spears turned down a $10 million offer to judge on the show, indicating that she wouldn’t fill the position for less than $20 million. Before the contract will be complete, Spears had to meet with her conservators, which were appointed after Spears’ breakdown in the mid-2000s. The group, who includes her father and fiancé, must sign off on all of the pop-singer’s legal and financial decisions.

Will TV fans and Britney Spears fanatics tune in to watch the singer on the second season of “The X Factor?” For all the latest news involving TV contestant shows and reality television, use the TelevisionFanatic toolbar to stay updated.

DWTS Fanatics Worried After Melissa Gilbert Injury

We’ve all heard contestants on the popular ABC television show Dancing with the Stars talk about injuries they’ve sustained while training for and performing on the show, including bruises, scrapes and pulled muscles. But a contestant has never before left the studio on a stretcher, until now. Just minutes after performing an intense paso doble on Monday night with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Melissa Gilbert was wheeled from the ballroom by EMTs.

Host Tom Bergeron announced on the air that Melissa had “injured herself” during the partner’s rock-themed dance and was being taken to the hospital “as a precaution…to get checked out.” Later, the star tweeted an update letting her followers know she was okay. “I’m alright,” she wrote. “Mild concussion and whiplash. Very soon I will be safely home resting and being taken care of.”

The injury happened near the end of the pair’s dance when Melissa’s head smacked the ground, though it initially looked like she hit the floor on her back. Chmerkovskiy didn’t escape the performance uninjured either. He scraped his elbow during a rehearsal and pulled his groin during the show.  Despite their injuries, the pair placed first for the night’s episode. Judges told the two it was their best performance yet.

One Tree Hill Fanatics Say Goodbye to Beloved Series

Last night, fans of The CW drama “One Tree Hill” had to say goodbye to Nathan, Brooke and the whole crew one last time. Last night market the end of the show’s nine-year run. The first half of the two-hour finale featured interviews with the cast and scenes from the past.

“I feel like these characters sort of exist on their own now,” said Mark Schwahn, the show’s creator. “Even though I’m not sitting down and writing ‘Fade In’ every week, it feels like they’re still there. I think it’s always going to feel that way.”

Overall, the last show was a poignant look back at the lives of the characters over the years and left fans happy and satisfied with the characters’ futures. The last scene of the finale was the best, a shot showing the group cheering in the stands at Jamie’s basketball game, just like old times.

The ratings for last night’s show were the highest of the entire season; 1.42 million tuned in for the final walk down memory lane. The finale also gave the network its highest-rated Wednesday night in the 18-34 year-old female group since February of last year.

Spoiler Alert: Bachelor Finale Brings Surprises, A Breakup

This season of The Bachelor has certainly been an interesting one – prompting some viewers to wonder how much of the decisions were made by Bachelor Ben himself and how many were dictated by the show’s producers. In last night’s finale, Ben Flajnik got down on one knee and proposed to Courtney Robertson, who was often seen causing trouble and starting fights with other contestants throughout the season.

Over the season, Ben had narrowed down the contestants to just two for last night’s finale. Lindzi Cox joined him and Courtney in Zermatt, Switzerland, for the finale. After Ben did not choose her, Lindzi appeared on Good Morning America and said that she wished the couple “nothing but the best.”

Following the finale, ABC aired After the Final Rose which updated fans on Ben and Courtney’s life since the Bachelor finale. According to Ben, the romance crumbled soon after the proposal as he began watching the show on television and realized how catty and conniving Courtney was toward the other girls. After not speaking for a period, the couple is trying to rekindle their lost romance.

Jersey Shore’s Snooki Pregnant and Engaged

Rumors have been swirling for weeks that Jersey Shore’s Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is pregnant. Pictures snapped by paparazzi of Snooki wearing looser clothes than usual and carrying oversized purses in front of her belly have spurred on the gossip. On Feb. 2, Snooki even appeared on Good Morning America to discuss her future and confront the rumors.

“I definitely do want kids, but I’m not pregnant,” the 24-year-old said in the interview. “Being pregnant should be a real thing and a happy thing, and I’m not.”

Did Snooki speak too soon? Late last month, sources close to the reality star told the New York Post that she was pregnant with her boyfriend, and now fiancé, Jionni LaValle.

For Jersey Shore fanatics, the future of Snooki’s involvement with the show has yet to be addressed. Last week, Snooki and Jenni “JWoww” Farley moved into a house in Jersey City, NJ, to begin filming a spin-off of Jersey Shore.

Reality show fans and Jersey Shore fanatics should head to TelevisionFanatic for more news on how Snooki’s pregnancy could affect future seasons of our favorite fist-pumping guido show. True Blood Creator To Leave Show Following Fifth Season

Following the conclusion of the upcoming season of HBO series “True Blood,” the show will be headed into uncharted waters after losing the leadership of Alan Ball, the creator and executive producer of the vampire drama. The decision came about last summer when Ball extended his overall deal with HBO. After the fifth season, Ball will take on more of a supervisory position with the series and will be less involved with the show’s day-to-day proceedings. He will stay on as an executive producer to consult and advise on the direction of the series, but leaves most of the plot’s future in the hands of “True Blood” writers and producers who have been with the show since the start.

Ball’s decision to step back from “True Blood” give him more time to create and produce new shows. He is currently the executive producer for a crime drama called “Banshee” for which Cinemax has placed a 10-episode order. He is also working on a HBO medical drama called “Wichita.”

“’True Blood’ has been, and will continue to be, a highlight of not only my career but my life,” Ball said in a statement. “Because of the fantastic cast, writers, producers and crew, with whom I have been lucky enough to work these past five years, I know I could step back and the show will continue to thrive as I look forward to new and exciting ventures.”

Glee, Grammy Awards Pay Tribute to Whitney Houston

Last night’s Glee was a particularly moving episode, to say the least. In this special Valentine’s Day episode, glee club director Mr. Schuester gives the club’s members an assignment to rehearse and sing romantic songs. One of the show’s characters, Mercedes (played by Amber Riley), chose to cover Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” an unintentional tribute just days after the singer’s death. In the show, Mercedes used the song to say goodbye to both her current and ex-boyfriend. As always, Riley’s performance was both breathtaking and chill-inducing, especially due to the coincidence of the show’s writers selecting this song for Mercedes long before Houston passed away.

After her song aired on Tuesday, Riley tweeted “Ok I got through it, only minimal tears. I hope you are proud Ms. Houston. :) thanks guys for the kind words.” The show’s producers also added a memorial title card to the end of the show, which read “Whitney Houston 1963-2012. We will always love you.”

The Glee tribute joins Sunday’s Grammy performance in paying respect to the singer and icon. Following the announcement of Houston’s death on Saturday, Grammy organizers quickly selected Jennifer Hudson to perform “I Will Always Love You” during the show’s live telecast. Her performance followed an In Memoriam segment that honored late talents such as Amy Winehouse, Clarence Clemons and Steve Jobs.
